Vedic Mathematics

  • The Sulvasutras account for a sizable portion of the body of mathematic knowledge from the Vedic era. The Sulvasutras are works that serve as instructions for building the vedis (altars) and agnis (fireplaces) needed for the execution of yajnas, which were an important aspect of Vedic society.
  • Depending on the setting and purpose of the particular yajna, the altars and fireplaces were built in a variety of designs, including falcons, tortoises, chariot wheels, circular troughs with handles, and pyres, with dimensions of around 20 to 25 feet in length and width.
