Home Rule League Movement, 1914

It was Indian response to First World War and was led by Lokamanya Tilak and Annie Besant. It was organized on the lines of Irish Home Rule Leagues which aimed at reforming the administration and not an overthrow of the government.

  • Factors leading to the Movement
    • Dissatisfaction of Moderates: Moderates were dissatisfied with the Morley-Minto Reforms.
    • Need of Pressure on the Government: Some Nationalists felt that government wasn’t likely to give any real concessions unless political pressure was applied on it.
