Answer: Interlinking of rivers is the process of connecting two or more river basins through human intervention. The aim of interlinking is to transfer surplus water from one river basin to water deficient river basin.
India's National Water Development Agency has proposed interlinking of rivers in both peninsular block and Himalayan block. Since rainfall in India is not evenly distributed, some river basins receive more rainfall than others. Thus, connecting the river basins through interlinking infrastructure can solve the twin problem of flooding and drought.
