Give details about the distribution of black soils in India and why it is called ‘self ploughing soil’?
Answer: Black soil is also called ‘Regur Soil’ and it plays an important role in ecosystem and agricultural productivity.
Black soils are formed from the disintegration of volcanic rock spread over Deccan Plateau.
Most of the black soils are derived from two types of rocks:
- Deccan Trap
- Ferruginous gneisses and schist occurring in Tamil Nadu.
Geographically, black soils spread mostly in Deccan Plateau which includes parts Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat and some parts of Tamil Nadu.
