Inadequate Habitat and Overpopulation of Wildlife

  • The biggest challenge to wildlife conservation is inadequate habitat.
  • Incidents involving wildlife leaving protected areas and entering residential areas have increased substantially in recent years. Overpopulation of wildlife is one of the reasons attributed to this.
  • Overpopulation of tigers in tiger reserves, rhinos in Kaziranga and lions in Gir, compounded by the reduction of habitat, especially for rhinos in Kaziranga, is alarming.
