Non-cooperation Movement was the first mass-based political movement under Gandhi. Explain its impact.

Answer: Entry of Gandhi in Indian political agitation started from local level. With the success of Champaran Satyagraha Gandhi’s name in political agitation was widely acknowledge. After Champaran, Gandhi first contribution was mass strike against Rowlatt Act. In 1920, Gandhi ji started first mass movement namely Noncooperation movement against the British Rule.

Causes of Non-Cooperation Movement

  • Resentment towards British after World War (WW) I: despite of rewards and autonomy in returns of supporting British in world war, they introduced Rowlatt Act and Government of India Act 1919
