Significance

  • Rural Population: Due to the fact that roughly 65 percent of Indians live in rural regions, the function of PRIs (rural local bodies) has evolved into a crucial aspect of local self-governance. They offer last-mile connectivity and support the government's implementation of various social sector programmes in the areas of housing, sanitation, drinking water, etc. By keeping local objectives at the forefront of the discussion and including PRIs actively in SDGs, localization of SDGs at the level of PRIs will aid in accomplishing SDGs.
