Inter-State Council
Recently, Tamil Nadu government urged the Union government to conduct at least three meetings of the Inter-State Council every year to strengthen the spirit of cooperative federalism.
Issues Highlighted by Tamil Nadu
- Tamil Nadu flagged the lack of regular meetings; there has been no meeting since July 2016.
- There have been instances where many Bills affecting the rights and interest of the States, are passed in Parliament without proper consultation from States.
- Thus, it leads to unpleasant and vexatious litigations involving States and Union.
