In light of India State of Forest Report 2021, enumerate the initiatives of the government to improve forest cover of the country.

Answer: As per Indian State of Forest Report 2021, the total forest and tree cover of the country is 80.9 million hectare which is 24.62 percent of the geographical area of the country. Compared to 2019, there is an increase of 2261 sq km.

The following initiatives of the government have improved forest cover of the country:

  • FSI has included a new chapter related to the assessment of forest cover in the Tiger Reserves, Corridors and Lion conservation area of India in ISFR 2021.
