State of women’s participation in Indian political system is an indicator of political inequality entrenched in our democracy. Analyse the significance of gender parity in polity of India.

Answer: 17th Lok Sabha has 78 women Members of Parliament (MPs), which is 14% of the strength of house, the highest since independence. However, this is still a low number when women form 49% of the population. Even with higher percentage of women voters, their political participation is not equal to men which in turn has led to their inadequate representation in decision making organisations.
