The Later Mughals

The Mughal emperor who came to throne after Aurangzeb are called the Later Mughals.

The real power under these rulers passed into the hands of nobles. They formed themselves into many factions, usually on the basis of their common origin. For example, Trans-Oxiana in Central Asia known as 'Turanis'. Similarly, there were groups of Irani, Afghan, Hindustani nobles. Each of the groups tried to establish their supremacy and own power.

By the end of the reign of Aurangzeb, the number of Mansabdars in the empire had increased though the revenue had declined. And each Mansabdars demanded bigger Jagirs which would yield him ....
