Landholders’ Society / Zamindari Association (1837)

  • The Landholders' Society marked the beginning of organized political activity and the use of constitutional agitation methods for the redressal of grievances.
  • Also called Zamindari Association, it was formed by various prominent intellectuals of Bengal such as Bhabani Charan Bandyopadhyay, Dwarkanath Tagore, Prasanna Kumar Tagore, Radhakanta Deb, and Ramkamal Sen.
  • It established close ties with the British India Society in London.

Bengal British India Society (1843)

  • The Bengal British India Society was established in Calcutta in 1843.
  • It worked to collect and disseminate actual information about the condition of people in British India.
