​Pitt's India Act, 1784

  • Board of Control: Pitt's India Act provided for body of six commissioners popularly known as the Board of Control, which was empowered to superintend, direct and control the Company's affairs in India with regard to civil, military and revenue work.
  • Role of Directors: The Directors retained their control of commerce and right to patronage except in the appointment of the Governor-General, the Governors of Madras and Bombay and the Commanders-in-Chief of the three Presidencies.
