​Individual Satyagraha (1940)

  • At the Ramgarh session of Congress, the decision to launch mass civil disobedience was left to Mahatma Gandhi. By 1940, the government issued many ordinances taking away the freedom of speech.
  • The government frequently arrested Congress members, particularly those with socialist views, as a preventive measure. They detained many labour and youth leaders.
  • The Individual Satyagraha began on 17th October, 1940 with Vinobha Bhave offering Satyagraha near his Paunar ashram in Maharashtra. Jawaharlal Nehru was the second and Braham Dutt as third one to offer Individual satyagraha.
  • The satyagrahis were handpicked by Gandhi and their demand was restricted to asserting their freedom ....
