Review Petition

  • Recently, there is a visible increase in the number of review petitions seeking review of Supreme Court’s landmark verdicts.
  • Supreme Court is a court of record whose judgments, proceedings and acts are recorded for perpetual memory and testimony in future cases. These are also recognised as legal precedents and legal references.
  • But, Article 137 of the Constitution provides that subject to provisions of any law and rules made under Article 145, the SC has the power to review any judgment pronounced or order made by it.
  • Review does not allow taking fresh stock of the case but only allows correcting grave or patent ....
