​The Governor

At the state level, there is a Governor in whom the executive power of the State is vested by the Constitution. But the Governor acts as a nominal head and the real executive powers are exercised by the Council of Ministers headed by the Chief Minister.

Position

  • Article 153 of the Constitution requires that there shall be a Governor for each State. One person can be appointed as Governor for two or more States. 7th Constitutional Amendment Act of 1956 facilitated the appointment of the same person as a Governor for two or more states.
