Early Indian Responses to British Rule
In the vast span of 100 years between Battle of Plassey of 1757 and Revolt of 1857, Indians responded to rapid changes introduced by British in the economy, administration and land revenue system. Moreover, foreign character of British rulers hurt the pride of people. Such responses were mainly short-lived and localized in nature. Such responses or popular resistance took broadly three forms: civil rebellions, peasant movements and tribal uprisings.
