Gandhi-Irwin Pact

  • The First Round Table Conference held in London between November 1930 and January 1931 could not get any fruitful result due to the absence of Congress.
  • Gandhi was released from custody in January 1931 and began negotiations with Lord Irwin aimed at ending the satyagraha campaign. A truce subsequently was declared, which was formalized in the Gandhi-Irwin Pact that was signed on March 5, 1931.
  • Congress endorsed the Gandhi-Irwin Pact, also known as the ‘Delhi Pact’, in its special session - Karachi Session on 29th March, 1931 where it reiterated the goal of ‘Poorna Swaraj’. The session also adopted ....
