  • In the wake of recent violence in Delhi, FIR was lodged against many political leaders for spreading enmity through hate speech.
  • Hate speech that promotes enmity between different groups is explicitly banned under Section 153A of the Indian Penal Code.
  • Sec 153 A deals with promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion, race, place of birth, residence, language, etc., and doing acts prejudicial to maintenance of harmony.
