Rajya Sabha
- President of India recently nominated former Chief Justice of India (CJI) Ranjan Gogoi to the Rajya Sabha.
- In exercise of the powers conferred by sub-clause (a) of clause (1) of article 80 of the Constitution of India, read with clause (3) of that article, President nominated him.
- The Rajya Sabha is the Upper House (Second Chamber or House of Elders) of the Parliament.
- Composition: Its maximum strength is fixed at 250, out of which, 238 are to be the representatives of the states and union territories(elected indirectly) and 12 are nominated by the president.
