Koodiyattom
‘Cholliyattom’, a collective of young Koodiyattom artistes in Kerala, which was launched on a modest note during the COVID-19 pandemic, has now evolved into a platform where artistes following different styles come together to preserve the art form.
About Koodiyattom
- Also known as Kutiyattam, it is one of India’s oldest living theatrical traditions.
- The prefix “kuti” in Malayalam language primarily means “combined” or “together”, and “attam” means “acting”; therefore, the word “kutiyattam or Koodiyattam” means “combined acting.”
- It is traditionally performed in theatres called Kuttampalams, which are located in Hindu temples.
