Lingaraja Temple (Kalinga School of Temple Architecture)
The Government of Odisha recently announced to give a facelift to the 11th century Lingaraj Temple, similar to its pre-350-year structural status.
About Lingaraja Temple
- It was built in 11th century AD by King Jajati Keshari of Somavanshi dynasty with later additions by the Ganga dynasty rulers. It is dedicated to Lord Shiva. Temple signifies the syncretisation of Shaivism and Vaishnavism sects in Odisha.
- Its Deul (tower) rises to a height of 180 feet and marks the culmination of the temple architecture in Bhubaneswar which was the cradle of the Kalinga School of Temple Architecture.
