Plastic Waste Management : New Rules
On 14th March, 2024, the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change published the Plastic Waste Management (Amendment) Rules, 2024 through a gazette notification to further amend the Plastic Waste Management Rules, 2016. The new rules aim to regulate the labelling of biodegradable plastic products.
Under the new rules, plastic manufacturers must ensure that their products not only claim to biodegrade but also leave no harmful microplastics behind. This move marks a significant step towards addressing the environmental hazards posed by plastic waste.
