Supreme Court Panel Report on Repealed Farm Laws
On 19th March, 2021, a Supreme Court-appointed panel to study the three farm laws, which was scrapped by Parliament in November 2021, submitted its report to the apex court.
- The bilateral interactions of the Committee with the stakeholders demonstrated that only 13.3 percent of the stakeholders were not in favour of the farm laws.
- Around 85.7 percent of the farmer organizations, representing more than 3.3 crore farmers supported the laws.
Broad Recommendations
Abolish Essential Commodity Act (ECA)
- It recommended abolishing the Essential Commodity Act (ECA).
- Or, as an alternative, it wanted the Centre to “substantially liberalize its provisions.” ....
