Districts Empowered to Grant Citizenship

In May 2021, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) issued a notification under the 2009 rules of the Citizenship Act, 1955, allowing non-Muslims from Afghanistan, Bangladesh, and Pakistan to apply for Indian citizenship in 13 districts across five states: Gujarat, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, Haryana, and Punjab.
