Fundamental Duty
Introduction
Kant says that a person’s will is only good if they are motivated by duty. Duty means that we should never act in any way that we wouldn’t want the principle we act on to be a universal law. Kant further said that while rights are important they must be counter balanced by duty.
Though the rights and duties of the citizens are correlative and inseparable, the original Constitution contained only the fundamental rights and not the fundamental duties. This we have also cited as one of the criticism of the constituent assembly while we were dealing with Constitution.
