Judicial Pronouncements

  • High Court in Naz Foundation vs NCT of Delhi, 2009, stated that section 377 (criminalises homosexuality) of IPC is unconstitutional as it violates articles 14, 15, 19, and 21 of the constitution.
  • Supreme Court in National Legal Services Authority vs Union of India, 2014, created/granted third gender status to the transgenders.
