Major Issues

  • LGs of Delhi/UTs have been given more power as compared to Governors of states. For instance, he controls four subjects i.e., police, services, land and public order.
  • In case of difference of opinions between elected government and LG, the decision of LG would be final.
  • Delhi, although a union territory, is administered under Article 239 AA. This special set up worked well mainly because the same party held office at the Centre as well as in Delhi for much of the time. Things changed when different government ruled the city and the centre.
