National Interlinking of Rivers Authority
The Central government is working on the establishment of an exclusive body to implement projects for linking rivers- To be called the National Interlinking of Rivers Authority (NIRA).
- The proposed body would look into inter and intra state river linking projects and generate the funds for the same.
Interlinking River (ILR) Projects
- As of now, there are 6 ILR projects under examination –
- Ken-Betwa (Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh)
- Damanganga- Pinjal (Maharashtra and Gujarat)
- Par-Tapi-Narmada (Maharashtra and Gujarat)
- Manas-Sankosh-Teesta-Ganga (Assam and West Bengal)
- Mahanadi-Godavari (Orissa, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana)
