Inter-State River Water Dispute
Tussle between the state governments of Karnataka and Tamil Nadu over construction of Mekedatu Project on Cauvery river has revived again.
Mekedatu Project
- It is a Rs 9000 crore project of Karnataka government to store water on river Cauvery.
- It has received approval from Union Water Resources Ministry in 2017, but Tamil Nadu has objected its construction and approached Supreme Court.
The Mekedatu Project Dispute
- Mekedatu is a location along Cauvery in Kanakapura Taluk of Ramanagara District of Karnataka. Karnataka wants a reservoir across Cauvery at Mekedatu, to meet Bengaluru’s water problem.
