Assam-Mizoram Border Dispute
In October 2020, Assam-Mizoram boundary dispute (more than 50 years old) once again came into the limelight following the violent clashes between the residents of the two states in the area close to the border.
Genesis of Assam-Mizoram Border Dispute
- The border dispute between Assam and Mizoram exists since the colonial era when the British Administration demarcated the inner lines on grounds of administrative needs.
- The dispute stems from a notification of 1875 that differentiated Lushai Hills from the plains of Cachar, and another of 1933 that demarcates a boundary between Lushai Hills and Manipur.
