​Ardh Kumbh

  • The festival was organized from 15th January to 4th March, 2019 at Prayagraj city, former Allahabad.
  • Kumbh Mela has been inscribed on the UNESCO list of Intangible Cultural heritage for humanity in 2017.
  • It is mentioned in the writings of 7th century Chinese traveller Hiuen Tsang. The festival was also popularised among people by the eighth century Saint Shankaracharya.
  • As per mythology, during a battle betweenGods and Demons over a pot of Amrit (Nectar of immortality) a few drops of Amrit fell in Haridwar (banks of Ganga), Prayagraj/Allahabad (Confluence of Ganga, Yamuna and Saraswati), Nashik (banks of Godavari) and Ujjain (banks of Shipra).
