Naegleria fowleri (Brain-eating Amoeba)
- On 20th May, 2024, a five-year-old girl undergoing treatment for primary amoebic meningoencephalitis (PAM), a rare infection caused by Naegleria fowleri or “brain-eating amoeba”, died at the Government Medical College Hospital in Kozhikode.
- Naegleria fowleri is a thermophilic and free-living amoeba found in warm fresh water and soil around the world.
