Hampi’s Virupaksha Temple
Recently, a section of the pillars holding up the pavilion at Hampi’s Virupaksha temple collapsed following heavy rains.
About the Virupaksha Temple
- The temple, situated in Hampi in the Ballari District of Karnataka, is dedicated to Lord Virupaksha. Lord Virupaksha is a form of Lord Shiva.
- It is located on the banks of the river Tungabhadra River.
- Lakkan Dandesha constructed the temple under the rule of Prauda Deva Raya of the Vijayanagar Empire.
- Virupaksha is worshipped along with the goddess Pampa here.
- Virupaksha Temple complex also houses shrines of Bhuvaneshwari and Vidyaranya.
