Causes

  • Land Revenue System: With the arrival of the British and the formation of colonial rule, new land revenue settlements were established, and the Paikas' lands were lost.
  • British Exploitative Policies: After the King of Khurda was deposed, the British administration's exploitative policies grew increasingly intolerable to the people of Odisha. Continuous meddling in the economy and revenue systems resulted in peasant and farmer exploitation and persecution, finally leading to a revolt against the British.
