Where We Stand: Maternal and Child Health

  • According to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW),approximately 26 million babies are born in India annually, out of which8 7.3 lakh die within the first month of their lives.
  • Further, about 13% of the country’s population comprises children between the ages of zero tosix years, and among them an estimated 12.7 lakh die every year. Similarly,around 45,000 women die annually from childbirth; most of these deathsare of causes that are preventable.
