Double Asteroid Redirection Test (DART) Mission
On 24th November, 2021, NASA launched its Double Asteroid Redirection Test (DART) Mission, the world’s first full-scale planetary defence test mission to test technology for defending Earth against potential asteroid or comet hazards.
Mission Highlights
- Launch: Built and managed by the Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory (APL), DART was launched aboard a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket from Vandenberg Space Force Base, California.
- DART: It is a low-cost spacecraft, weighing around 610 kg at launch and 550 kg during impact. The main structure is a box (1.2 × 1.3 × 1.3 metres). It has two solar arrays and uses hydrazine propellant for ....
