​The Coastal Shipping Bill, 2024

On 2nd December 2024, the Coastal Shipping Bill, 2024, was introduced in the Lok Sabha.

  • The Bill aims to enhance coastal trade and promote Indian-flagged vessels owned and operated by Indian citizens.

Salient Features

  • Licensing for Coastal Trade: The Bill prohibits foreign vessels from trading in coastal waters without a licence, with provisions for inland vessels to participate under specified conditions.
