Jallikattu
On 24th December, 2024, the Tamil Nadu Government issued an elaborate Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) to be followed to ensure the safe conduct of Jallikattu events in 2025.
What is Jallikattu?
- Jallikattu, also known as Eruthazhuvuthal, is a bull-taming sport traditionally played in Tamil Nadu as part of the Pongal harvest festival.
- It is a violent sport in which contestants try to tame a bull for a prize; if they fail, the bull owner wins the prize.

- The history of this bullfight dates back to 400-100 BCE when it was played by the Ayars, an ethnic group in India.
