July 4: Dharma Chakra Day
Why in news?
- International Buddhist Confederation (IBC), under the aegis of Ministry of Culture, celebrated Asadha Poornima on July 4, as Dharma Chakra Day.
- This day commemorates Buddha's First Sermon to his first five ascetic disciples at the Deer Park, Rsipatana in the present day Sarnath near Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh.
- Also, the Ministry of Culture presented the first set of five volumes of Mongolian Kanjur published under the National Mission for Manuscripts (NMM) was presented to the President of India on the occasion.
