Jyotirmath
- On June 12th, 2024, Uttarkhand Chief Minister announced that the Joshimath will now be known by its ancient name 'Jyotirmath',
- Joshimath is a hilly town located on the Rishikesh-Badrinath National Highway (NH-7) in Chamoli district of Uttarakhand.
- It is one of the four cardinal four mathas (monasteries) established by Adi Shankara in the 8th century.
- The other three mathas are Dwarka in Gujarat, Puri in Odisha, and Sringeri in Karnataka.
- It is the gateway to famous pilgrimage sites like Badrinath, Hemkund Sahib and base camp to trek Nanda Devi peak.
