India Ranks Sixth Among Countries Most Affected by Extreme Weather
On 12th February 2025, a report by Germanwatch’s Climate Risk Index (CRI) ranked India sixth among the top 10 countries most affected by extreme weather events from 1993 to 2023.
- The country has witnessed over 400 extreme weather events, resulting in $180 billion in losses and at least 80,000 fatalities over the past three decades.
Climate Risk Index (CRI)
- The Climate Risk Index (CRI) is an annual ranking published by Germanwatch, assessing countries most impacted by extreme weather events over a given period.
- It considers absolute and relative fatalities, economic losses, and the number of people affected to determine vulnerability.
