Market Infrastructure Institutions
On 26th February, 2022, Markets regulator Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) passed an order sanctioning the National Stock Exchange (NSE) and its official for laxity in governance.
- In setting the context for its order, SEBI noted that the NSE was a systemically important market infrastructure institution (MII).
About Market Infrastructure Institutions
- Stock exchanges, depositories and clearing corporations are collectively referred to as securities Market Infrastructure Institutions (MIIs).
- Literally, the term ‘infrastructure’ would mean the basic, underlying framework or features of a system; and the term ‘market infrastructure’ denotes such fundamental facilities and systems serving this market.
