Model Tenancy Bill
On 11 July, the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MHUA) released the draft Model Tenancy Act, 2019, in public for consultation. The law aims to regulate rental housing by a market-oriented approach.
- It envisages to balance the interest and rights of both the owner and tenant and to create an accountable and transparent ecosystem for renting the premises in disciplined and efficient manner.
- States will be free to adopt the law owing to land being State Subject.
