New Monetisation Pipeline
On 23rd August, 2021, the government launched the National Monetisation Pipeline (NMP), which expects to raise Rs. 6-lakh crore by monetising the operating assets of the Central Government over a four-year period ending FY25.
The pipeline has been prepared in consultation with NitiAayog.
Objective
- The strategic objective of the programme is to unlock the value of investments in brownfield public sector assets by tapping institutional and long-term patient capital.
Need
- The global pandemic led to the economic crisis in the country which forced the government to increase spending to provide essential relief to vulnerable sections of society.
