Renaming Places in India
Recently, a gram panchayat in Unnao district, Uttar Pradesh has proposed to change the name of Miyaganj to Mayaganj.
Procedure of changing the Name of a State, City, or Street
- Street: In case of renaming a street, the concerned civic authority, zilla parishad or panchayat, approves or rejects the proposal.
- City: If it is to rename a city, the concerned state cabinet takes the decision.
- State: In case of renaming a state, a state legislature needs to pass a resolution for the same, which is then sent to the Centre. The Union cabinet then decides to approve or reject the Constitution ....
