Arunachal Pradesh Seeks Inclusion in Sixth Schedule

  • Recently Arunachal Pradesh Assembly unanimously passed a resolution for the entire state to be included in the Sixth Schedule of the constitution and to amend Article 371(H) to protect the rights of its indigenous population.
  • Arunachal Pradesh comes under the Fifth Schedule, which deals with provisions related to the administration and control of scheduled areas and scheduled tribes. But the state has no constitutional safeguard or special protection with respect to religious and social practices, customary laws and rights to ownership and transfer of land.
