Medical Termination of Pregnancy (Amendment) Bill, 2020
On 16th March, the Rajya Sabha passed the Medical Termination of Pregnancy (Amendment) Bill, 2020 that increases the time period within which an abortion may be carried out by certain ‘special categories ’ of women.
- The Bill was passed in the Lok Sabha in March 2020.
- It amends the Medical Termination of Pregnancy Act, 1971.
Key Provisions of the Bill
- Time Limit for Abortion:Currently, abortion requires the opinion of one doctor if it is done within 12 weeks of conception, and two doctors if it is done between 12 and 20 weeks. The Bill allows abortion to be done on ....
