India’s Latest Move to Impose Sanctions on Masood Azhar Foiled
Why in News?
- China on 13 March once again blocked the United Nations Security Council’s move to designate Pakistan-based Jaish-e-Mohammad’s (JeM) chief Masood Azhar a global terrorist.
- JeM has claimed responsibility for Pulwama terror attack that took place on 14 February 2019.
Details of the proposal
- A fresh proposal was moved by US, UK and France on 27 February 2019 to blacklist Azhar under the UNSC’s 1267 Sanctions Committee in response of Pulwama terror attack.
- JeM is a UN-designated terrorist group and Azhar is the founding leader of JEM and meets the criteria for being proscribed under 1267 ....
