United Nations Global Principles for Information Integrity

On 24th June, 2024, United Nations Secretary-General unveiled the Global Principles for Information Integrity, targeting the spread of online misinformation, disinformation, and hate speech.

5 Core Principles

The five core principles of the United Nations Global Principles for Information Integrity are:

  1. Societal Trust and Resilience: Governments, technology companies, advertisers, media, and other stakeholders should refrain from using, supporting, or amplifying disinformation and hate speech for any purpose.
  2. Independent, Free and Pluralistic Media: Governments should facilitate timely access to information, ensure a free, viable, independent, and pluralistic media landscape, and ensure robust protection for journalists, researchers, and civil society.
